Network Manager on Fedora

Network Manager is a management tool for networking. It works well for connecting with both wifi and wired networks.

Applicable to Fedora Versions

  • Fedora 8+

Requirements

  1. Read our Getting Started with Wireless Guide.
Network Manager needs to be installed. If using KDE, an addtional package needs to be installed. Yum should be used to install these packages if they are not installed.
  • The NetworkManager package is installed.
  • If using KDE, the knetworkmanager package is installed.

Doing the Work

  1. After the packages are installed all that needs to be done is to start the needed services:
    2. /sbin/service NetworkManager start
/sbin/service NetworkManagerDispatcher start
  2. Set the services to start on boot:
    3. /sbin/chkconfig NetworkManager on
/sbin/chkconfig NetworkManagerDispatcher on
  3. Use the system-config-network tool to set your devices to not start on boot:
    4. su -c 'system-config-network'

How to Test

Connect to both secure and open networks. Network Manager should enable easy configuration of all the features your device supports.
