Previously to get a Sun JDK for Java required additional steps as it was not redistributable. With IcedTea, based on OpenJDK, there is a Fedora package of the Java 1.7 preview. Applicable to Fedora Versions
Doing the WorkInstall IcedTea
yum install java-1.7.0-icedtea-plugin java-1.7.0-icedtea-devel You now should be able to run or compile programs with the java and javac programs, respectively, and use the web browser plugin.
